Solar Energy Harvesting with Plastic Foils

Abstract

The ever growing demand for (renewable) energy in densely populated countries calls for the dual use of space and thus requires novel concepts for solar energy harvesting. Multipurpose organic solar cells may not only be the blueprint for future solar installations, but also become the enabler for an all ecofriendly photovoltaic technology with minimal environmental impact, green fabrication and smallest carbon footprints.

Bio

Alexander Colsmann studied physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, where he received his diploma in 2003. In 2008 he was awarded his PhD for his thesis “Charge carrier transport layers for efficient organic semiconductor devices” by the University of Karlsruhe (TH). In 2016, he accomplished his Habilitation.
Since 2020, Alexander is Professor at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), heading a multidisciplinary research team on photovoltaics.
Research interests include organic solar cells, perovskite solar cells, novel materials for light-harvesting, semi-transparent solar cells for building integration and mobile applications, photo-catalysis, organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs), printed electronics, polymer electrodes, charge carrier transport layers and electrical doping of organic semiconductors.
