Title
More than physical sensing
Abstract
From data explosion to smart sensing – As the physical world generates an ever-growing volume of data, sensors must become increasingly autonomous, offloading main processors, minimizing cloud connectivity, and cutting latency to deliver a seamless and responsive user experience.
Sensors defined by what they enable, not just what they measure – Modern sensors are no longer mere components: accelerometers track steps, detect falls, and trigger alarms; combined with gyroscopes, they monitor training and reconstruct complex motion dynamics, turning raw signals into meaningful actions.
Entering a new era of configurable, context-aware sensors – The evolution of applications demands sensors that can be reconfigured, adapt to changing contexts, and operate at a higher level of abstraction, inaugurating a new sensor era where intelligence moves ever closer to the edge.

Bio
Marco Capovilla holds a Master's degree in Physics from the University of Milan. With three years of experience as a Quality Manager in the medical sector, he joined STMicroelectronics in 2005 as part of the MEMS Research and Development team. His focus was on the dry etching process for MEMS sensor production and on process transitioning ST's fabrication facilities from 6-inch to 8-inch wafers. In 2009, he brought his expertise to the technical marketing team and collaborated in supporting key accounts globally, including those in the United States, Europe, and Asia.
Since 2014, Marco has been the Marketing and Product Manager responsible for MEMS in the Korea area and is the product reference for IMU within the ST MEMS Sub-Group.
